5 Diseases That Can Make You Fat!
So you have followed your nutritionist’s instructions to the letter and still haven’t managed to lose much weight? You have probably done it all, right from calorie counting to portion control and walking for hours on end, and you still find it extremely difficult to lose those extra annoying pounds. Perhaps your body weight has very little to do with your lifestyle habits and more to do with some of the diseases you might be suffering from!
Contrary to what most people believe, weight gain is not always caused by poor lifestyle habits. There are a number of diseases that can cause weight gain. And these diseases act as obstacles to any effort you put in order to lose weight. Getting rid of these diseases maybe the best thing you can do to your health! The following diseases often cause weight gain. I would recommend though that you consult with your physician to get an idea of what you need to do for weight loss.
1. Stress: When you are stressed, your body will produce a stress hormone called cortisol. Mild levels of stress are easily controlled with the normal amount of cortisol present in our body. However, if you are suffering from excessive stress, then your body would need to produce more and more cortisol in order to combat with the growing stress menace. When your cortisol level increases beyond the normal level, you gain weight.
2. Depression: Do you know one of the most common reasons behind weight gain? Overeating. And why do people overeat? They seldom overeat for reasons of hunger. More often than not, their large appetite has got to do a lot with their mind. If you are emotionally depressed, you would eat a lot of unnecessary foods to give yourself comfort. It is another thing that food, far from giving you comfort, actually makes you uncomfortable by making you overweight!
3.Insulin resistance: If your body is resistant to insulin, your blood sugar level would increase to an abnormal level, resulting in weight gain! Recent research has proved that insulin resistance is one of the leading causes behind obesity!
4.Inactive thyroid: Also known as hypothyroidism; when your thyroid gland is inactive, you’re not able to burn fat as fast as usual. The end result is that you gain weight. Proper medical attention is needed to take care of your thyroid gland.
5. Hormonal changes: If you are a woman, hormones can play a big role in your body weight. Certain hormonal changes that occur in your body during menopause or pregnancy can result in weight gain!
Before you join another weight loss program, make sure that you are not suffering from one of the above diseases; otherwise, your weight loss efforts might simply go waste!
