Do You Honestly Need to Lose Weight?
If you think you really do need to lose weight, do you have any idea how much weight you actually need to lose? Obesity is a very large and quickly growing problem across the world, but despite that there are actually many people who don’t really need to lose any weight. For a variety of reasons, some people think they’re fat when they’re not.
Before starting any weight loss plan, you need to find out what your ideal weight should be. Your ideal, or average, body weight is based on whether you’re a male or female, how tall you are, and what kind of bone structure you have. There are easy charts, and calculations which can help you determine what your ideal weight should be. Knowing your ideal weight, will help you know whether or not you actually need to lose any weight.
Another very important factor that most people miss though, is knowing how much body fat they have. Knowing the percentage of body fat you have, also known as your body mass index, is another key metric you need to know before deciding to go on a diet.
A simple visit to your doctor can help you learn both your ideal body weight, and your body mass index. The ideal body weight is of course just a general average Guideline, but it is a great way to know if you actually need to lose any weight. Now of course if you have a high percentage of body fat, compared to your muscle mass, then it won’t matter if you still fall within your ideal body weight guidelines, because you have too much fat on your body.
Without knowing the specific details though, you really don’t know if you need to lose weight, or even how much you might need to lose.
Don’t make the mistake of deciding that you’re fat just because of the picture used on a magazine. Or because your favorite celebrity is on a diet. Most of the pictures we see in the media of models and celebrities, are not real. A lot of touch up work is done by graphic artists before those pictures are ever published.
So arm yourself with the proper information about your specific body before choosing to go on a diet or deciding that you need to lose weight.
