Does The Siegal Cookie Diet Really Work?
Having weight problems isn’t something new for most people . Too many people seem to have a hard time dropping as little as 2 to 5 pounds. Dr. Sanford Siegal, a medical doctor who created a diet plan that mainly involves cookies and shakes, which take the place of many foods the average person eats during the day. Dr. Sanford Siegal is the creator of the famous “Cookie Diet.” This medical doctor based his idea of losing weight on eating healthy cookies and shakes that replace ordinary meals. As a matter of fact, he bakes his cookies in his own special bakery! This cookie diet has a similar concept to that of the Slimfast Plan, consisting of 6 cookies per day and one healthy meal for dinner.
The Cookie Diet is so popular that even star clients are claiming that it really works. About 500,000 people are already following this diet. Dr. Siegal uses a proprietary protein amino acid and fiber in his cookies to suppress hunger between meals.
However, there are pros and cons to this diet. This diet reduces caloric intake to 800-1000 per day with meals consisting of only cookies, shakes, or both. This type of program might work for some dieters but the majority of people who try this diet will find eating cookies and shakes throughout the day rather difficult after the first few days. Once boredom strikes, straying from the diet to find higher calorie foods is very possible. With such restrictions, losing weight this way may be harder to do.
Another disadvantage is that there’s no exercise or weight maintenance program after you reach your ideal weight. There’s the risk of gaining back all the weight once you resume your diet. You can only maintain your weight as long as you maintain the diet. Research has shown that most dieters who get off their previous diet regimens regain all the weight they lost soon after — with 10 pounds or more extra.
There is no doubt this diet is not for everyone. Dr. Siegal discussed medical conditions that would prevent dieters from losing weight by simply exercising and making nutritional adjustments. One of those conditions is called Hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is classified as a failure of the thyroid gland which causes the body’s metabolism to slow down not allowing for calories to be burned efficiently.
Furthermore, Hypothyroidism also contributes to Insulin Sensitivity, which aggravates weight gain. If you have any of these conditions, the Cookie diet may not be for you.
Before you try this diet (or any other diet for that matter), determine first if you can handle it. It may be difficult, but if you have the determination to lose weight, it won’t be impossible. Start with the basics, like a healthy diet and more exercise.
