Successful Weight Loss Begins by Knowing Your Body
If you’ve been trying to lose weight for any length of time, you’ve probably come across a number of weight loss plans. Many of the popular weight-loss plans today tend to contradict each other. Or at least they seem too. So you may be wondering, which one really works? The answer might not be what you want to hear: they all do. Or at least they all can.
The question you really should be asking is: which one will work for me? You see, everyone is different. What works for one person for losing weight, may not work for another. This is why you will come across information that says a low-fat diet works wonderfully, and you will see other people claiming low-fat diets don’t work at all. The same applies for low carbohydrate diets, liquid diets, and pretty much any other diet you might come across.
Each person’s body will respond to specific things differently than other people’s bodies will. And to make matters even more complicated, not everyone will do things the exact same way.
For example, some people are sensitive to milk products. So if they try a low carbohydrate diet such as Atkins, and they eat cheese on a regular basis, they may find that they have a difficult time losing weight. It’s not because the diet doesn’t work though, it’s because their body is either sensitive to or allergic to milk products. If they take the time to learn this specific thing about their body, they will find they have much better success in losing weight.
The same concept applies when some people can eat certain types of junk food, or things that may be discouraged on a specific diet, and not have problems with continuing to lose weight. One person following the South Beach diet for example, may have no problems eating ice cream in the evening before bed. Another person however, may find that their weight loss plateaus, or they begin to regain weight they’ve already lost, if they start eating ice cream each night before bed.
What’s the difference?
The answer isn’t always simple or easy. There can be many factors which contribute to these differences. The person who is losing weight for example, may only be eating a small scoop of plain vanilla ice cream. While the other person, may be eating an entire pint with chocolate chunks and caramel. Or both people could be eating plain vanilla ice cream, and just one scoop, but there’s a drastic difference in the size of their scoops. Then of course, there’s probably a difference in the brands they are eating: one brand may have additional additives or even more sugar than the other.
So the best way to be successful with any diet you choose, is to know how your body reacts to specific things. If you’re aware that eating rice makes you feel bloated then avoid that food. If on the other hand, potatoes seem to cause you no problems, then this might be something you can eat in moderation while still losing weight. Until you know which foods give you problems though, you won’t be able to realistically select the best weight-loss plan for you.
